Update on Class 2 DSC

The CCA has come up with a new update, as per the latest update class 2 DSC will not be issued anymore from 1st January 2021. This can be considered as a revolution as class 2 DSC is in the system since years and coping up with new requirements is all we need to do.

What in place of Class 2 DSC?

With effect from 1st January 2021, in place of class 2 DSC, only class 3 DSC needs to have opted.

From 1st January 2021 according to guidelines issued by CCA. Only Class 3 DSC will be issued.

These guidelines are issued by CCA (Controller of Certifying Authorities) which need to be followed by CAS.

Under these guidelines, Certifying Authorities need to follow guidelines related to the matters including (but not limited to) DSC Application and mandatory information provided therein, eKYC Account, virtual/physical verification, key pair storage or generation, documents verification, DSC Issuance, Invoice/Acknowledgement, Encryption Certificate, Special purpose certificates, SMS, OTP, first factor & second-factor authentication and so on.

How to escape from spending more or applying for a new class 3 DSC?

Those Class 2 DSC which are already made and registered on the respective portal will still be valid even after 1st January 2021.

Hence the immediate action which should be taken on the Applicant part is

Apply for Class 2 DSC for fresh validity of 1/2/3 years as per the requirement.

Hence by taking these measures one can save the cost which is going to be higher for Class 3 DSC.
